How to Get Long-Term Visas in the UAE?

Since the news of long term visas broke down last November, the speculations have been high regarding long term visas. If you are planning to apply for a long-term visa in UAE, here is what you need to know:

The introduction of UAE long term visas is an effort to attract highly skilled talent and retain them to the country, a strategy adopted by one of the strongest economies in the world, the United States of America, through its H1B visa program. The visas will also allow the expatriates to live, work and study in the United Arab Emirates, without a local sponsor, and with 100% ownership of business in mainland UAE. For a 5 Year Visa (Without a Sponsor)

  • Investors who have purchased a property in the UAE

The visa will be granted if the property has a gross value of minimum AED 5 million, or more. The conditions to be met include:

  • The invested amount should not be the proceeds from a loan.
  • The property must be in ownership for at least 3 years after purchase.
  • Entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur, you must have an existing project, with a capital of not less than AED 500,000. You can also apply for this visa if you have the approval from one of UAE’s accredited business incubator.

The entrepreneur will be allowed a visa with multiple entries, for six months, which will be renewable for a further six months. The visa will include your spouse, children, three executives and a partner.

  • Outstanding Students

Outstanding students are defined as those students who have secured a grade of 95% in private or public secondary schools. In GPA terms, a GPA of at least 3.75 secured by university students from outside or within the UAE will be able to apply for this visa.

For a 10 Year Visa (Without a Sponsor)

Investors of Public Investments (At least AED 10 million)

  • Visas can be extended for inclusion of business partners, however each partner’s contribution must be AED 10 million.
  • It can also include children and spouse, as well as one advisor and executive director.
  • Offshore investors may apply for a multiple entry visa for a period of up to six months.
